The outcome of our lives is not determined by what happens to us but by how we respond to what happens to us.
We will be affected by the circumstances of our lives. They will carve grooves into our hearts that will always be part of our experience. But those circumsatnces, horrendous as they may be, do not have the power to control the outcome of our lives.
As long as we believe that our happines and well-being are determined by what happens to us, we will always be victims, because so much of what happens to us is beyond our control.
Our only hope lies in realizing that we do have a choice about how we respond to life's circumstances, and it is those responses that determine the outcome of our lives.
The most important thing is not how we start, but how we finish.
We are who we are because of the circumstances in our lives and how we respond to them. They mold and shape us. We grow. We change.
Who would we be without change?
